What are the member benefits offered at the National Portrait Gallery?

As a Circle of Friends member you will be supporting one of Canberra’s most dynamic and creative institutions. A list of all member benefits can be viewed here.

Does my membership get me access to a members lounge?

The Gallery does not have a members lounge, but your membership gives you access to a suite of great benefits, including discounts at the cafe and shop and free parking.

How do I book members programs or events?

Bookings for members can be made online through the Gallery’s website portrait.gov.au, or by contacting the team at [email protected].

If I cancel my booking for a program or event, can I get a refund?

Program and exhibition tickets are non-refundable. If you’d like to gift your ticket to a friend or family member, please contact [email protected] and a member of the team will be able to assist.

How do I redeem my free parking?

Members can access free parking in the Gallery’s underground carpark every day between 10:00am – 4:00pm. To redeem your parking, simply visit the Welcome Desk, present a valid membership card and your ticket will be validated by an Experience Facilitator.

What should I do if I forget my membership card?

Visit the Welcome Desk and speak to one of the Gallery’s Experience Facilitators. They will be able to issue you a temporary card so that you can access your benefits during your visit.

What should I do if my membership card is lost?

Please visit the Welcome Desk or call the Membership office on 02 6102 7022 to request a replacement card. There is a $5 administration fee for lost or stolen cards.

Can I suspend or cancel my membership?

Unfortunately, memberships are non-refundable on suspension or cancellation.

How do I update my details?

Please contact the Membership Office and let the team know about any changes to your personal details. To make sure you get the most of your membership, please keep your details up to date.

Am I eligible for a concession-priced membership?

Eligible concession card holders receive a 20% discount on membership fees. The Gallery accepts Centrelink, Healthcare, Pensioner, Veteran and full-time student card holders. Please note that the Gallery will securely record your concession card number on your customer profile.

I was gifted a membership. What do I need to do?

Nothing! Your membership is already active and you can use all the benefits immediately.

Can I add someone to my membership?

You are welcome to add an additional person (to a maximum of two people) to your membership at any time by getting in touch with our team via [email protected]. Costs apply for an additional member and need to be paid before a second card is activated.

When will I receive my membership card?

New or replacement cards can take up to two weeks to be delivered. If you are visiting the Gallery before your new card arrives, please speak to an Experience Facilitator at the Welcome Desk during your visit, as the Gallery may be able to issue your new card on the spot.

Can I bring a guest to the Gallery’s exclusive member events?

On some occasions, members may be able to bring a guest to exclusive member events. Keep an eye on the monthly members newsletter to find out more.
