Baron Kurt von Stutterheim (1888–1978), German journalist and author, worked for the Berliner Tageblatt newspaper in Berlin, London and Rome from 1919 to 1936. He then travelled around the world as a correspondent, including to South Africa and Canada, before being interned in Australia during the Second World War. After the war he lectured in German language and history at Sydney University and the University of New England in Armidale. Von Stutterheim wrote a number of books, including Australien (1949), a guide to the history, geography, politics, economy and culture of Australia written in German. Although he applied for naturalisation in 1947 after living in Australia for seven years, he moved to Switzerland in 1953. He was married twice, to Cynthia Maud Beckett from 1929 to 1952, and Luise-Henriette Margarete von Bernstorff from 1953 until his death in 1978.
