My story, 2019

Mohammad D and Sam Biddle

National Photographic Portrait Prize 2020 Finalist

A few days before this photo was taken my mother called me in tears. She was hysterical. After seven years of living here in Australia without any certainty for our future, our protection visa had been granted. I finally feel like I belong. Because of this visa, I can soon be reunited with my sister after seven years of separation. I want to be prime minister, but my ultimate dream is just to see my sister and grandmother again. I collaborated on this work with Sam Biddle, with the support of the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.
