Archie Roach, 2019

Martin Philbey

National Photographic Portrait Prize 2020 Finalist

Archie Roach is a proud Gunditjmara Bundjalung man born in Maroopna, Victoria. As a member of the stolen generations, he has become a powerful voice for Indigenous Australians and is one of this country’s greatest storytellers. His music speaks the stories of his people, of this land and of the human condition.  His voice – uniquely Australian whilst undeniably universal – continues to resonate for us all.
