National Photographic Portrait Prize 2025 Finalist
‘According to Reiki philosophy, hands are the silent messengers of the soul. The loving touch of a mother is something many of us know from childhood – it soothes, makes us feel safe, even heals a sore spot. A mother’s caress is a miraculous remedy because touch is the first true contact with life when entering the world. The essence of touch is deep, intimate and also magical. The photograph Hands captures Ojas as he holds his parents’ hands while gently resting his hand on his mother’s growing belly.’
Laura Zviedre is a Boorloo/Perth-based photographer whose documentary-style portraits capture honest and heartfelt stories.
The People’s Choice Award is generously supported by the Calvert-Jones Foundation, with the artist who wins the most votes receiving $10,000.
Voting closes Sunday 28 September 2025.
from Saturday 16 August
