National Photographic Portrait Prize 2015

National Portrait Gallery Director Angus Trumble invites media to the announcement of the winner and exhibition preview for the 2015 National Photographic Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery this Friday 20 March 2015 at 11.00am.

The prize is an annual event intended to promote the very best in contemporary photographic portraiture by both professional and aspiring Australian photographers. This year’s Prize attracted a staggering 2400 entries – the most ever received. Judges Angus Trumble, National Portrait Gallery Director, Dr Christopher Chapman, National Portrait Gallery Senior Curator, and guest judge, acclaimed Australian photographer Nikki Toole, selected the final 44 portraits that make up the exhibition.

The full list of finalists is available at portrait.gov.au/nppp. The prize winner will be available for interview, along with Dr Christopher Chapman, Nikki Toole and Gallery Director Angus Trumble.

The National Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition will be displayed at the National Portrait Gallery 21 March to 8 June 2015. The exhibition will then tour to Artspace Mackay, Cairns Regional Art Gallery, Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery and Rockhampton Art Gallery.

A selection of finalists images will be made available on Friday morning.
