Robert Di Pierdomenico (b. 1958), the 'Big Dipper', began his career with the Hawthorn Football Club in 1975, but remained obscure until the Grand Final of September 30, 1978, when he gathered 15 kicks, shot out six handpasses and took six marks to be named best on ground. He went on to play 240 games and kick 130 goals with the Hawks during one of the most successful eras of domination a club has ever seen, retiring in 1991 with 5 day and 4 night premierships. Known for his toughness (which led to many trips to the Tribunal), the moustachioed Dipper was one of the much-loved characters of the VFL.
