In 1997 Grant Matthews successfully sued Consolidated Press for unauthorised reproduction of one of his photographs. The Australian Commercial and Media Photographers association presented him with its President's Award 'for having single-mindedly taken on Mr Packer's organisation over the moral misuse of one of his images.' The award citation continued 'He put his money where his mouth was. Had he lost the resulting court case, it might have cost him $60,000. By winning, he publicised the issue of moral rights for every photographer.'
