Deborah Paauwe (b. 1972), photographer, was born in the USA and came to Adelaide in 1985 after a childhood spent travelling around the world with her missionary parents. Paauwe studied at the South Australian School of Art, graduating in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Visual Arts), and in 2000 completed her MA in Fine Art at the Chelsea School of Art, London. Since then she has become known for her beguiling, sometimes unsettling images exploring themes such as innocence and vulnerability, often featuring girls and women in vivid, vintage or ultra-feminine garments. Paauwe's works have been included in many solo and group exhibitions and she is represented in public and private collections in Australia and internationally. In 2008, Paauwe was commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery to photograph Sass & Bide fashion designers Heidi Middleton and Sarah-Jane Clarke.
