Alice Rosemary Giles AM, was born in Adelaide in 1961. Giles is an internationally celebrated Australian classical harp soloist. Trained at the Sydney Conservatory of Music, Giles won the 8th International Harp Contest in 1982 and has been award a Churchill Fellowship and Australia Council grant to study overseas. Giles has performed in recitals and with orchestras Europe, America, the Middle East and Australia. Giles is the first professional musician to perform in Antarctica as part of a multimedia performance Alice in Antarctica live streamed from Mawson Station and then performed across Australiana and internationally as a result of being awarded an Antarctic Arts Division Fellowship. As the Artistic Director of the Seven Harp Ensemble she has commissioned various new works by Australian composers. Giles was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia in 2017 for her ‘services to the performing arts as a harpist, educator and mentor and through contributions to Australia’s musical landscape’ She is the daughter of Australian artist Rosemary Madigan.
