From 1883 he exhibited landscapes and figure studies with the New South Wales Society of Artists; he worked for the staff artist for the Illustrated Sydney News, the Bulletin and the Brisbane Boomerang. He is best known for illustrating Arthur H Davis’s (Steele Rudd’s) enormously popular book On Our Selection (1899) and its sequel, Stocking Our Selection.
