Sir Mark Sheldon (1871-1956), businessman, was the Chairman of the first Repatriation Board of NSW. He was managing-director of Carmichael & Co. Ltd, paper merchants; chairman of Waterloo Glass Bottle Works Ltd (1910-15); a long-term director from 1910 of the Australian Bank of Commerce; vice-president of the Sydney Chamber of Commerce (1916-19); a State executive member of the British Red Cross Society; and chairman of the State Repatriation Board (1917-19).In October 1919 he became Australian Commissioner in New York.

Arthur Vernon was the general secretary of the United Labourers’ Protective Society, a delegate to the Sydney Labour Council, a member of the Eight Hours committee, and a Labour alderman of the city for Cook ward. He was a delegate to the executive of the newly-formed industrial section of the ALP.
