Sigrid Thornton

b. 1959

Sigrid Thorton (b. 1959) began appearing on Australian television in the mid-1970s, in series including Certain Women and Bellbird on the ABC, and Division Four and Prisoner on commercial networks. After roles in the films FJ Holden and The Getting of Wisdom in the late 1970s she starred in The Man From Snowy River in 1981. The film was taken up in the US, as was the television series All the Rivers Run, made the same year, which set Australian ratings history and gained Thornton a Best Actress Logie. Through the 1980s she performed in a variety of television and film roles including The Man from Snowy River 2 in 1987. In 1989 Women's Day readers voted hers 'Australia's Most Beautiful Face' and in 1990 she was judged to have 'Australia's Most Beautiful Eyes'. In 1997 she began her starring role in Sea Change, which became one of the ABC's best-loved series; she starred in three series of the hit show between 1997 and 2000, receiving the Best Actress Logie in 2000. In 2009-2010 she starred on stage in Opera Australia's A Little Night Music (to rave reviews); The Blue Room; and Talking Heads.
