Sir James Hardy is a highly respected wine maker, sportsman, raconteur, businessman and community leader. His contribution to the Australian wine industry is recognised worldwide. He sits on numerous boards and committees: He is an Executive Committee Member of the Neurosurgical Research of South Australia; Chairman of the Natural Heritage Committee; and as a part of his support for the Landcare Australia Foundation, he has directed royalties from Hardy's Banrock Station wines to a project to restore the wetlands not only here in Australia, but in England and Holland. Sir James is also one of Australia's yachting greats. He was a member of the Australian Olympic team in 1964 and 1968 and is the winner of many international races. He skippered a number of America's Cup entries and played a major role in Australia II's 1983 victory. In 1994 he was induced into the America's Cup Hall of Fame in Rhode Island, USA.
