Herbert Badham was an artist, writer and teacher who specialised in figures, urban life and beach scenes. His work typified the gentle, realist aspect of Sydney modernism of the 1930s. He published the populist Study of Australian Art in 1949, and his work underwent a minor revival in the late 1980s.
