Gorgi Dimcevski was born in Skopje, Macedonia, where he studied architectural engineering and art history and archaeology. After exhibiting and receiving a number of awards for his painting in his native land, he moved to Australia in 1992, receiving an ACT Arts and Special Events Grant the same year. Dimcevski was a finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize for 2009.
