Elizabeth Barden

b. 1965

Elizabeth Barden was born in Brisbane and trained as an art teacher at Kelvin Grove CAE. In 1990 she moved to Cairns, where she held her first solo exhibition in 1999 and her second four years later at the Cairns Regional Gallery. She painted her first portrait, of Lisa Curry, in 1998. Since then she has been a finalist in the Portia Geach Memorial Award five times, and the Shirley Hannan Prize twice; she won the People's Choice award in the Shirley Hannan Prize of 2004. She has won several regional awards and has exhibited with Portrait Artists Australia, Kick Arts-Cairns and the Cairns Art Society. Her portrait subjects include Dr Susan Carland.
