Born in 1983 of Irish and Aboriginal descent, award winning singer-songwriter Daniel Leo Sultan grew up in Melbourne and moved with his family to Yuendumu in the Tanami Desert and Cairns, following his father who worked as a lawyer for the Aboriginal Legal Service. He learned to play guitar and write songs from an early age. In 2007, he won a Deadly Award for Single of the Year with his song, ‘Your love is like a song’. More accolades followed when his second album reach #1 in 2009 and he made his screen debut in the film Bran Nue Day; his co-stars including Geoffrey Rush, Missy Higgins and Jessica Mauboy. He performed with Paul Kelly on Kev Carmody’s tribute album ‘Cannot buy my soul’ and also at the concert by the same name at the State Theatre in 2008, part of the Sydney Festival. He has also received numerous ARIA awards for Best Blues and Roots album and also Best Male Artist.
