Bruce Armstrong (1957-2024) was a sculptor, painter, printer and charcoal artist. Two of his chainsawed redgum sculptures have stood at the entrance to the National Gallery of Victoria since 1987. The National Gallery of Australia holds eight of his works, and Savage Beauty, a critically acclaimed retrospective of Armstrong's sculptures, prints and bronzes curated by Ted Gott, was held in 1999 at the Museum of Modern Art at Heide followed by Bruce Armstrong: An Anthology of Strange Creatures at the National Gallery of Victoria in 2016-2017.
