Bill McAuley

b. 1951

Bill McAuley began his career as a photographer for newspapers and magazines in Melbourne in 1969. For the next forty years he worked in Melbourne, Sydney, London and Canberra, covering subjects ranging from hard news, bushfires, drought, crime, the arts, sport, politics and human interest. During the 1980s he travelled through country Victoria shooting hundreds of rural assignments for the Australian. He worked on the road while running the photographic desks of The Sunday Herald, the Sunday Herald Sun and Sunday Magazine. His awards include Australian Press Photographer of the Year and the Eltham Arts Council Award.
