Bessie Gibson (1868-1961), like Harold Parker, studied under Godfrey Rivers at the Brisbane Central Technical College, where she developed an interest in miniature painting. Having travelled to England and Europe with her family in 1901-1902, she left Australia for Paris in 1905, not to return until 1947. In 1905 she successfully submitted a miniature of her father to the Royal Academy Exhibition. In Paris she studied at three schools, undertaking more miniature training with Mlle Debillemont-Chardon.
