National Photographic Portrait Prize 2018 Finalist
Tre – 17 years old and originally from the Wonkamarra tribe, Bourke, NSW – was a participant in the ‘Pound for Pound’ intensive mentoring program for youth, based in Dubbo. This unique initiative offers its participants a 24-hour holistic case management service, providing support and mentoring in all aspects of life, and using boxing to instil hard work and discipline. The program is facilitated by Kara Tremain and Robert Toomey. (Toomey was a two-time Australian light/welterweight boxing champion, and also held the Asia Pacific Oceanic title).
NPPP judge Robert Cook provides irreverent insight into this year’s fare, and having to be a bit judgemental.
The exhibition is selected from a national field of entries, reflecting the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
