Owen Yalandja is a senior member of the Dangkorlo clan and lives at an outstation community at Barrihdjowkkeng, Arnhem Land. He exclusively represents the yawkyawk spirits in sculptural form. He is a well-known singer for traditional ceremonies. He has a formidable presence when you meet him which and I tried to convey in his portrait. This photograph is part of an ongoing series examining cross-cultural motifs.
