National Photographic Portrait Prize 2025 Finalist
‘Intimacy can be so much more than the popular definition. This photo depicts Kayleb painting up his partner Britney in a design that speaks of love and loss. Britney and Kayleb are both incredible cultural dancers and would later that evening dance together to further display the depth of love and loss that they have experienced. Culture is a powerful healer. Waagan Galga Corroboree, Wonnarua Country, November 2024.’
Biripi and Dhungutti photographer Marcus Rowsell lives on Worimi Country in Forster, New South Wales. He shoots primarily in black-and-white 35mm film, a deliberate choice to strip away complexity and focus on the raw beauty of everyday moments.
The People’s Choice Award is generously supported by the Calvert-Jones Foundation, with the artist who wins the most votes receiving $10,000.
Voting closes Sunday 28 September 2025.
