A new beginning, 2019

Dagmar Cyrulla

Darling Portrait Prize 2020 Finalist

Kym Ellery is the founder of fashion label ‘Ellery’. She is part Maori and grew up in Karratha, Western Australia. With nothing but ambition and courage she conceived her label, with her work taking her to the catwalks of Paris and drawing high-profile admirers such as Rihanna and Cate Blanchett. In recent times she has had to close her business in Australia and focus on the international market. She has been criticised for this. I know her as Kym: warm, strong, funny, elegant and courageous. I want others to see her like that, and to be proud to have her as another amazing Australian woman.
