Those on a subway, 2010

by Emma Caskie

Year 10, St Francis Xavier College ACT
watercolour and acetate on paper

This drawing represents how I feel about the place of all people in the world, including myself. I was inspired by a song by Jon Brion, which has the line 'I'm just a little person, one person in a sea of all the little people, who are not aware of me'. The effect of the subway was to emphasise the constant comings and goings and sheer amount of people you can see in a single day, and how each one can seem unimportant. I'm sitting in there with them, but for the point that I am making, I am indistinct.
