Franky Tsang

National Photographic Portrait Prize 2026 Finalist

pigment photographic print (frame: 90.0cm x 120.0cm depth 4.5cm)

‘This photograph shows my daughter sitting quietly on her own. I was nearby, watching from a short distance. She didn’t look back, and she didn’t need to. I felt the urge to step closer and chose not to. The moment was brief, but it stayed with me. Being close didn’t mean stepping forward. Loving her meant learning when to stay still.’

Franky Tsang is a photographer who works on Gamaragal/Cammeraygal Country in Sydney. His portraiture practice is grounded in emotional sensitivity and human connection, and focuses on subtle, often unspoken moments.
