The National Portrait Gallery is deeply saddened by the news of the untimely death of Carla Zampatti AC, an Australian icon and a woman who contributed so significantly to defining the identity and style of Australian women.
Helen Nugent AO, Chairman of the National Portrait Gallery, said that Carla, was ‘an awe-inspiring Australian who gave so much to the community. She has defined a generation of Australians with her style, graciousness, humanity and achievements and has been a wonderful friend to the National Portrait Gallery.’
Director of the Gallery, Karen Quinlan AM, extended her sincere condolences to Carla’s family and friends.
The illuminating portrait of Carla by Georges Antoni (2015) recently featured in The Look, an exhibition which celebrated the best of Australia.
