One of Australia’s preeminent printmakers, Alison Alder explores social and political issues through her art practice from her studio in Mongarlowe on Yuin Country. Alison’s formative years were spent working in the screenprinting workshops of Megalo Print Studio, Redback Graphix and art centres in the Northern Territory. Her work is held in national and international collections and she has been awarded the Alice Prize, an International Year of Tolerance Fellowship, and an Australian Prime Ministers Centre Fellowship. She is currently an Honorary Associate Professor at the School of Art and Design at the Australian National University.
Some women you may not know, Alison’s poster installation of 116 screenprinted portraits in the Tim Fairfax Forecourt, champions some of the many women who have contributed to Australian society and shaped the artist’s understanding of the world, but whose images and legacies are all too often forgotten.
