Winter Festival

Celebrate Canberra’s winter season at the Portrait Gallery’s annual Winter Festival. Check out the super-cool schedule of events:

Chill Zone

Take a break from the hustle and bustle of Winter fest and relax in the Gallery's Chill Zone. Winter themed books and atmospheric short films provided.

Liangis Theatre

Ice Sculptures

Watch the live carving of three ice sculptures. Inspired by work from our Collection. These works will come to life over the course of the day.

Sideshow

Etcetera Duo are back with their eclectic mix of comedy, mime and illusion.

Woolly wonderland

Canberra artist, Dan Edwards, will guide you to create your own woolly winter snowflakes and show you how to knit with needles, your fingers and arms!

Warm up Canberra

Start knitting! Bring along your knitted socks, scarves and gloves to warm up and decorate the Gallery hall. Our friends at Vinnies and their Night Patrol Van will be at the Gallery to collect your knitted donations. More details here.

Bring your own beanie from home or buy one on the day from the Information Desk. Get crafty and decorate it with materials provided by us. Then bedazzle with your blinged up headgear!
