In association with the exhibition, Ralph Heimans: Portraiture. Power. Influence. Associate Professor, Robert Wellington discusses the enduring connection of status with painted portraits.

Robert will explore Heimans’ paintings of royals, politicians and other public figures in relation to the history of European court portraits. The talk will consider how Heimans draws upon the authority of historical images but tempers their most authoritarian aspects through a sensitive portrayal of his pensive and very-human sitters.

Extend your experience at the Gallery and book your ticket here to view the exhibition before or after the talk.

Robert Wellington
