Soprano Louise Page, pianist Phillipa Candy and members of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra (Linden String Quartet) with principle flute Janet Webb perform vocal and chamber music by Horace Keats to launch the CD Wirripang.
Horace Keats is best known for his substantial contribution to our musical heritage in the form of his songs, after all the moniker ‘the Shubert of Australia’ or ‘a Poet’s Composer’ was not given lightly. The craftsmanship evident in all of them is such that they are still performed on the concert platform and broadcast some seventy years after their composition.
Louise Page is one of Australia’s most highly regarded singers and has performed in opera, operetta, oratorio, cabaret, recital and broadcasts, including roles at the Vienna State Opera as a member of the young artist program.
Phillipa Candy was the founding pianist with the group Austral Skies which toured for Musica Viva. She studied in London with the celebrated accompanist Geoffrey Parsons and in 1992 was inducted in the Pi Kappa Lambda Society for musical excellence.
Janet Webb has held the Principal Flute position in the Sydney Symphony Orchestra since 1985. She has also appeared as guest principal with many orchestras, including the Sadlers Wells Ballet Company.
The Linden String Quartet includes violinists Marina Marsden and Justine Marsden and cellists Timothy Nankervis and Elizabeth Neville.
