The Portrait Gallery will keep its doors open until 8.00pm on Fridays 13, 20, 27 January and 3, 10, 24 February. We will have a variety of fascinating (and free!) performances throughout the summer, and don’t forget to catch our Popular Pet Show highlights tour at 7.00pm (exhibition ticket required).
February 10: Country affair
Get your feet tapping and fingers clicking along to lively, fun gypsy-swing-style tunes provided by local band Doctor Stovepipe.
This exhibition expresses the joy and warmth that many of us derive from our animal companions, and celebrates their trusting, unpretentious ways, with portraits of Australians and their furry, feathered and fluffy friends.
Death masks, post-mortem drawings and other spooky and disquieting portraits... Come and see how portraits of infamous Australians were used in the 19th century.
