Reflections on portraiture

Nearly all the portraits at the National Portrait Gallery (NPG) are created from life.

A couple of weeks ago in anticipation of the Deathly Hallows movie adaptation, I was entertaining myself by looking at Harry Potter websites.

As you meander up the smooth speckled path to the National Portrait Gallery’s (NPG) polished concrete building, there is a large, almost luminous, bright tangerine orange sculpture marking the entrance.

I recently had the good fortune to travel deep into the Saharan Desert. It’s an extraordinary place, a true wilderness - marvellously isolated and utterly uninhabitable.
