Jacob Nash. Video length: 1 minute 34

This is Gusta. He's a dancer. He was backstage with Bangara Dance Theatre when I took the shot, and I had a moment where it was just he and I alone and everyone else was out performing. There was a single light falling across his body and I had a quick chat with him. We stood in silence as I took the portraits, and there's something about the photograph where he's so internal but still yet so powerful. I love spending time in those spaces with the dancers.

I think it is about trust and it's a relationship. I'm actually in their space and they let me record, to take that photo and that's about trust. For them they're just in that moment of stillness on the exterior, but internally there's a lot going on and so there's this beautiful tension and as subjects they're so aware of their body and so I can just move around in a really soft way and capture those moments and I love it. It's one of my most favourite places to be.

Gusta, 2022 Jacob Nash.
