Keith Miller MBE (1919-2004) was Australia's greatest cricketing all-rounder. Making his first class debut for Victoria at 18, he went on to score 2598 runs in 55 test matches, including seven centuries for an average of 37, and take 170 wickets at an average of 23. He was a great pace bowler with a notoriously variable run up; his batting has been described as 'cavalier'. Before immersing himself in cricket he played fifty games of for the St Kilda Australian Rules club and represented Victoria in the game. During the war he flew fighter planes over Germany, detouring once over Bonn because he wanted to see Beethoven's birthplace.
