Reflections on portraiture

All the portraits in the NPG have a real human being hidden behind them. While they are unlikely to leap out at you and grab you by the ears, they all began as actual human lives. Someone, for whatever reason, chose to commemorate or preserve that person’s image, and thus the portrait was made.

This morning, I was becoming marvelously drenched from the pouring Canberra rain watching my buddy in the annual Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA ) graduation parade.

Two beautiful women are currently on display right next to each other in Gallery 7 of the National Portrait Gallery. This raises plenty of contradictions, as you can read further below.

As a lover of history, I sometimes find myself  eagerly reading the exciting stories of men and women of the past and questioning how different it is from reading gossip magazines.
