The Portia Geach Memorial Award 2006

Winner - Lucy Culliton, Self with Friends

The Portia Geach Memorial Award is recognised as one of Australia’s most important prizes celebrating the creativity of Australian female portrait artists.

Since it was first awarded in 1965 to Jean Appleton for her work “Self Portrait” the Award has played a major role in developing the profiles of many of Australia’s female artists.
 
This year, the 2006 Portia Geach Memorial Award, worth $18,000, was won by Lucy Culliton for her work titled Self with Friends. The judges also highly commended Joanna Braithwaite’s Pleasant Point Revisited.
 
The Trustee for the Award is Trust Company of Australia and the Administrator and Organiser is Cauz Group Pty Limited (ph: 02 9326 5507).
 
This year’s Portia Geach Memorial Award’s exhibition is held at the National Trust’s SH Ervin Gallery until 5 November 2006.
