National Photographic Portrait Prize 2010

The National Portrait Gallery invites all Australian residents to enter the National Photographic Portrait Prize 2010. The exhibition will be displayed in the new National Portrait Gallery building from 20 March to 24 May 2010 and will subsequently tour to a select number of Australian capital cities and regional centres. The Prize is an annual event intended to promote the very best in contemporary photographic portraiture by both professional and aspiring Australian photographers.

With the generous support of Visa, the National Portrait Gallery is offering a prize of $25,000 for the most outstanding photographic portrait.

A panel of 3 judges will make an initial selection from all entries to determine the shortlist of finalists for inclusion in the exhibition. Only successful entrants will be contacted by the Gallery.  The judges will choose the prize winner from the portraits on display in the exhibition. Entries will be judged on their power as a portrait photograph rather than the status of the sitter or the reputation of the photographer.

The judges for the NPPP 2010 are: Ms Kim Machan, Director of MAAP Multimedia Art Asia Pacific; Dr Christopher Chapman, Curator, National Portrait Gallery; Ms Joanna Gilmour, Assistant Curator, National Portrait Gallery.
