National Photographic Portrait Prize 2010 Winner Announced!
Mr Andrew Sayers, Director, National Portrait Gallery announced today the winner of the National Photographic Portrait Prize 2010 is Scott Bycroft for the work titled Zareth. VISA has generously sponsored the exhibition and will provide the winning prize money of $25, 000. The winning work is featured in an exhibition of forty-three portraits from the finalists’ and will be on display at the National Portrait Gallery until 2 May 2010. Call for entries now open! National Youth Self Portrait Prize
The National Portrait Gallery invites all young Australians between 18 and 25 to enter the National Youth Self-Portrait Prize 2010. The National Portrait Gallery is offering a prize of $10,000 for the most outstanding self-portrait produced in the year preceding the prize. A selection of entries, including the prize-winning work, will be displayed at the National Portrait Gallery and as an online exhibition from 22 July – 12 September 2010.

National Photographic Portrait Prize 2010 Finalists Announced
The forty-three photographers whose work will be included in the National Photographic Portrait Prize 2010 has been announced. The exhibition will be displayed in the Gallery from 5 March to 2 May 2010 and then tour to a number of Australian capital cities and regional centres. The $25,000 Prize generously donated by Visa is an annual event intended to promote the very best in contemporary photographic portraiture by both professional and aspiring Australian photographers. National Portrait Gallery receives Australia's top architecture award
The National Portrait Gallery received Australia's top annual national architecture award at this year's Australian Institute of Architects’ Architecture Awards. The 2009 Sir Zelman Cowen Award for Public Architecture along with a National Architecture Award for Interior Architecture were presented to the Gallery at the Award ceremony on 29 October. Major New Sculpture Commission Unveiled
On Monday 26 October NPG Chief Patron Ms Thérèse Rein unveiled a major sculpture commission entitled Geo Face Distributor by Australian born, New York based artist James Angus. The sculpture is the final installment for the overall building design concept devised by National Portrait Gallery principal architect Richard Johnson from Johnson Pilton Walker. The sculpture is a striking work reflective of the artist’s interest in how the visual forms of physics, biology and mathematics inform our perceptions of time, space, scale, mass and movement.
