Q1 How many works can each school submit?
A Schools may submit a maximum of 6 works
Q2 Who determines which 6 artworks are submitted for the Headspace 10 exhibition?
A This is a school based decision
Q3 Can students collaborate on the creation of a work?
A Yes, with each contributor being acknowledged
Q4 Which year levels can participate?
A Headspace is open to all secondary students from Yr 7-12 (NSW, VIC, TAS, ACT, NT) and Yr 8-12 (QLD, SA, WA)
Q5 How do schools enter?
A Teachers need to register their schools participation by completing the online confirmation of participation form from Friday 26 February to Friday 18 June 2010
Q6 What is the date for submission of entries?
A Schools must submit entries online by Friday 18 June 2010
Q7 Can I submit new media, digital image or moving image portraits?
A Portraits in created in all media will be considered: drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, installation, mixed media and media arts (including moving image, film, projected image, new media)
Q8 What is the maximum size of artwork to be submitted?
A Dimensions of artworks are not specified. Small scale through to large scale works will be considered
Q9 What file size and format is required for artworks submitted online?
A Each work must be submitted online as a jpeg file (maximum 2mb). Video works must be copied to DVD and forwarded to the National Portrait Gallery, King Edward Terrace, Parkes ACT 2600 by Friday 18 June 2010
Q10 Can digital images be emailed to the National Portrait Gallery?
A Entries should be submitted via the National Portrait Gallery website. You may post an image disc if necessary to the address provided above
Q11 Can Visual Diaries be submitted for selection and exhibition?
A Developmental work will not be exhibited formally as part of the exhibition
Q12 Do I need to frame my artwork?
A Portraits should not be mounted, matted or framed. The National Portrait Gallery will arrange for the mounting of portraits if necessary and any AV equipment required for display
Q13 What information should the artist’s statement for the wall label include?
A The artist’s statement (max 100 words) should express the ideas and intention being conveyed in the portrait, what inspired or influenced the thinking for the self portrait and the ways in which the portrait developed
Q14 Will schools from each state/territory be selected to submit works for the Headspace 10 exhibition?
A Works submitted for the exhibition will be selected on merit
Q15 Will each of the 6 works submitted by a school be included in the exhibition?
A Works will be selected based on individual merit
Q16 Who will be on the selection panel?
A The panel of will comprise of two members of the National Portrait Gallery Education and Curatorial teams and a previous Headspace participant and /or art educator
Q17 Can students submit entries directly to the Headspace 10 exhibition?
A No, all entries must be submitted through the school contact teacher
Q18 When will we know what works have been selected for the gallery exhibition?
A By COB on 2 July 2010 teachers will be notified by email the works that have been selected for the Headspace 10 exhibition
Q19 What works will be included in the online exhibition?
A The selection of works for exhibition in the Gallery will be featured in the online exhibition
Q20 When should selected works be sent to the National Portrait Gallery?
A The school contact teacher will be advised by email and selected works for the exhibition will need to be delivered, couriered or posted to the National Portrait Gallery, King Edward Terrace, Parkes ACT 2600 by Friday 30 July 2010
Q21 What is the best way to send in selected works for exhibition?
A Information will be provided to the school contact teacher about options for packing and sending
Q22 Who is responsible for the cost of transportation of artworks?
A Schools are responsible for costs of submitting selected entries. The National Portrait Gallery will cover costs of returning artworks to schools
Q23 Can I submit an artwork that may be needed at school for academic assessment or a school exhibition?
A All works selected for the Headspace 10 exhibition must remain in the gallery until the exhibition closes on 7 November 2010
Q24 When will works be returned to schools?
A As soon as possible after the exhibition closes
Q25 What if I am the key contact teacher and I move schools or am on leave.
A Please arrange for another person to replace you and importantly please let the NPG know so we can communicate directly with new contact teacher.
