Headspace 10: Self/reflections is a national secondary school student art exhibition. We invite school based art educators from all states and territories to work with their secondary school level students to explore the Headspace 10 theme, Self/reflections, through portraiture. The work can be in any media and can explore the possibilities of portraiture in the broadest sense.
Each school may submit a selection of a total of 6 works from Years 7/8 through to Year 12 for consideration, by a panel, for inclusion in the exhibition. Headspace 10 will open at the National Portrait Gallery and online 9 September – 7 November 2010.
Headspace 10 celebrates ten years of the Headspace project at the National Portrait Gallery and builds on existing relationships with schools, students and educators. The theme is intended to be inclusive, rigorous and engaging for the diverse student community. Underpinning Headspace is the belief that portraiture is a valuable, potent and relevant art form through which students can explore aspects of themselves, their community and their world as it is or as it might be.
An information brochure will be sent to schools in term 1 2010. The brochure will detail guidelines for participation, submission requirements, and the selection process. Please check this page for further updates. You and your students can post your thoughts about the Headspace Project on the Education
BlogSpace.
The National Portrait Gallery looks forward to working with art educators and their students in 2010.
