"Education is learning what you didn't even know you didn't know." Daniel J. Boorstin

Welcome

Interpretation of portraiture connects history and art and the stories of people.  The National Portrait Gallery offers a wide range of workshops, study days and professional development forums for educators and students that extend and enrich school-based learning.  The expansive suite of student programs are designed to cater for all levels from preschool to tertiary.  Driven by the richness of the collection and students' responses to it, the programs emphasise visual art, history, literacy, numeracy, civics and citizenship.

The National Portrait Gallery is now open for bookings for student programs.  To arrange and book a student program please click here to submit a booking form. Programs are available Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm.

In addition to the programs offered at the Gallery, this education section of the website offers a growing list of resources for educators and students.  Click on the downloads section to access education units and program outlines.  The resources section contains multimedia and video pieces which can be used to interpret portraits in the National Portrait Gallery's collection.  Become a part of the Portrait Gallery's education community by participating in our education blog which covers all topics education and portrait related!
