Greta Scacchi
Greta Scacchi (b. 1960) was born in Milan and raised in England and Australia. At 18 she returned to London to study acting with the Old Vic. She appeared in small stage roles and commercials before the German filmmaker Dominik Graf cast her in Zweite Gesicht, Das [ The Second Face ] (1982), a part for which Scacchi learned to speak German. She was in Heat and Dust (1984) before coming to Australia for The Coca Cola Kid (1985). After White Mischief (1988) she made her Hollywood debut as the beautiful murder victim in Presumed Innocent (1990). Then came Shattered (1991), an acclaimed performance in The Player (1992), Jefferson in Paris (1995) and Emma (1996). In 1996 her performance as the Czarina in the HBO mini series Rasputin earned her an Emmy award and a Golden Globe nomination. She is said to have turned down the Sharon Stone role in Basic Instinct (1992).
