Australians in Hollywood : Biographical Notes
Peter James
Peter James (b.1947) has four times been named Australian Cinematographer
of the Year. After working on such Australian films as Caddie (1976),
The Wild Duck (1984) and Echoes of Paradise (1988) in the 70s and 80s,
James went to Hollywood to film Bruce Beresford's Driving Miss Daisy
(1989), initiating a long partnership with the director that has also
yielded Mister Johnson (1990), Black Robe (1992), Last Dance (1996),
Double Jeopardy (1999), Bride of the Wind (2001) and the HBO
production And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself (2003), featuring Antonio
Banderas. James's other films as cinematographer include Alive (1993),
which featured a young and hungry Ethan Hawke, Meet the Parents (2000)
starring Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro, and The Man Who Sued God (2001),
with Billy Connolly and Judy Davis.
