Hugh Jackman
Hugh Jackman (b. 1968) turned down a role in Neighbours to study drama at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. He then landed a major role in the ABC drama Corelli , opposite future wife Deborra-Lee Furness. After Melbourne productions of Beauty and the Beast and Sunset Boulevard he headed to London to star as Curly in the National Theatre's Oklahoma ! His performance brought rave reviews and a prestigious Olivier award. He then returned to Australia to make his film debut in Erskineville Kings (1999). After the more successful Paperback Writer (1999) he was summoned to Hollywood to replace the Scottish actor Dougray Scott in the big-budget X-Men (2000). In 2001 he consolidated his Hollywood profile with a trio of films: Someone Like You , with Ashley Judd; Swordfish , with John Travolta and Halle Berry ; and Kate and Leopold , with Meg Ryan. In 2003 he was Wolverine again in X-Men 2. He is currently appearing on Broadway in The Boy From Oz.
