Paul Hogan
Paul Hogan (b. 1939) conceived the idea for Crocodile Dundee (1986) during a visit to New York in the early 80s. The film made U.S. $378 million worldwide – at the time it was the 10 th highest-grossing film in history, and it still ranks as the 56 th. It won Hogan a Golden Globe for best actor in a comedy, and an Oscar nomination, with co-writers Ken Shadie and John Cornell, for original screenplay. Hogan had worked as a rigger on the Harbour Bridge before taking second place in the New Faces Grand Final of 1972. He then did comic editorials for Mike Willesee's A Current Affair before making The Paul Hogan Show. His debut as a serious actor came in the mini-series ANZACS (1985). After Dundee 's success he went on to make Crocodile Dundee II (1988), Almost an Angel (1990), Lightning Jack (1994), Flipper (1996) and Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles (2001). He recently completed work on the Australian film Strange Bedfellows , due in 2004.
