Australians in Hollywood : Biographical Notes
Tim Chappel
Tim Chappel, costume designer, was born in Lismore N.S.W. He was working with Lizzy Gardiner designing costumes for the Australian soap E Street when director Stephan Elliot, impressed by the pair’s ability to work creatively on a tight budget, chose them to supply the wardrobe for The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1996). Their lavish drag costumes for Guy Pearce, Terence Stamp and Hugo Weaving were rewarded with an Oscar, and Chappel has worked steadily in Hollywood ever since. His projects have included the Pamela Anderson TV series V.I.P. and the films Mojave Moon (1996), The Velocity of Gary (1998), The Simian Line (2000), and Boat Trip (2003).
