Cate Blanchett
Cate Blanchett (b. 1969) studied acting at NIDA and enjoyed an award-winning stint with the Sydney Theatre Company before making TV appearances in such shows as Police Rescue (1994). Her feature-film debut came in Parklands (1996). Her performances in Bruce Beresford’s Paradise Road (1997) and Gillian Armstrong’s Oscar and Lucinda (1997) brought international recognition, and won her the lead role in Elizabeth (1998), for which she received a Golden Globe award and an Oscar nomination. A string of major international films followed: Pushing Tin (1999), The Talented Mr Ripley (1999), The Gift (2000), Gillian Armstrong’s Charlotte Gray (2001), The Shipping News (2001), Bandits (2001), The Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001-2003), Veronica Guerin (2003) and Ron Howard’s The Missing (2003).
