The Mt Lamington volcanic explosion of 1951 killed
thousands of New Guineans. The mother of this family
had been killed, leaving the father and two children.
McQuillan arrived in Papua New Guinea the day after
the disaster, shooting for Consolidated Press. This
shot was highly commended in the news section of the
1901–1951 Jubilee Press Photographers exhibition. |
